Jail time... and Valentine's Day.

Because I'm too tired/lazy to explicate in greater detail.... here are two random musings:
  • Irony... or "Ironing," as a high school classmate titled an English paper on the element of irony in "The Gift of the Magi:" I worked to get people put into jail at my old job in DC. Perpetrator Accountability. Heavy stuff. Now at my new job in Austin, I work to find ways to get people out of jail. Prison overcrowding, budget shortfall. Heavy stuff.
  • Boyfriend or no boyfriend, I've worn red and/or pink every single Valentine's Day just because. I love flowers. I love chocolate. I love love. This year, I rushed to work, not even thinking of a colorful wardrobe theme. A woman in another office complimented me on my hair, and I self-deprecatingly mumbled something about needing to look in the mirror and actually fix my hair today. She stared at me incredulously and said, "My DEAR! It is VALentine's Day!" as if today was my one chance to look presentable and secure a mate. Fail.
Happy Valentine's Day. Get excited if you're a prisoner in Texas.

It's Rodeo Season in Texas!!

His eyes are cold and restless
His wounds have almost healed
And she'd give half of Texas
Just to change the way he feels
Well she knows his love's in Tulsa
And she knows he's gonna go
Well, it ain't no woman, in flesh and blood
It's that damned old rodeo.

Fun new goal: go to San Antonio, Austin, AND Houston rodeos this year. Lofty goal? Well, I'm kind of a big deal.

Here's the lineup of interest. Thoughts? Oh, and if you're noticing that Fort Worth was left off the list, that's because... well it's too close to Dallas. And by that I mean I just determined this goal today, which also happens to be the last day of the Fort Worth rodeo. What a shame.

Well, it's bulls and blood
It's dust and mud
It's the roar of a Sunday crowd
It's the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
He'll win the next go 'round
It's boots and chaps
It's cowboy hats
It's spurs and latigo
It's the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo.

Thursday February 10: Randy Rogers
Saturday February 12: Easton Corbin
Saturday February 12: Clay Walker
Saturday February 19: Eli Young Band
Saturday February 19: Josh Turner

She does her best to hold him
When his love comes to call
But his need for it controls a man
And her back's against the wall
And it's "So long girl, I'll see ya."
When it's time for him to go
You know the woman wants her cowboy
Like he wants his rodeo

March 11 Lady Antebellum
March 12 GARY ALLAN (holy cow. this must happen).
March 18 Alan Jackson

It'll drive a cowboy crazy
It'll drive the man insane
And he'll sell off everything he owns
Just to pay to play the game
And a broken home and some broken bones
Is all he'll have to show
For all the years that he spent chasin'
This dream they call rodeo.

Saturday March 12 - Eli Young
Monday March 14 - Dierks Bentley
Tuesday March 15 - Jason Derulo
Wednesday March 16 - Blake Shelton
Thursday March 17 - Easton Corbin
Friday March 18 - Josh Turner
Monday March 21 - Joe Nichols
Wednesday March 23 - Clay Walker

Clearly Austin is superior to the other two cities to begin with, but the lineup is superior, too.. and I might even venture out... gasp... during the week!

So if you're reading this and you may be interested in coming to any of the aforementioned concerts, do let me know.

It's the broncs and the blood
It's the steers and the mud
And they call the thing rodeo

And yes, I think Garth Brooks' Rodeo was my most frequently played song on the jukebox at Pizza Hut in Gonzales growing up. Don't judge.
