So that explains it!

Well folks, hate to break it to ya, but..

Today is the most depressing day of the year.

Here's the formula:

Something about weather, debt, need for action, Christmas, and motivation.

Never fear, for June 17 is the happiest day of the year. There is something to hope for. Press on, people. It only gets better.

Stepping aside

So here I sit at my laptop, processing what I finally did this weekend, what I put off doing for weeks, nay months. I withdrew from the Foreign Service application process.

I passed the test in June 2010, passed the essay portion in September 2010, and signed up to take the Oral Assessment (OA) on January 18, 2011. I've been so consumed with all things Texas (love ya, mean it) that I've been semi-thinking that I would just fly up to DC, take the OA, and come back.... the OA, however, falls on the day of the Perry/Dewhurst inaugural activities, and I have a job now, and... well, it jus' ain't fittin'.

So yeah. I don't view it as a "never ever again" sort of thing, but I am realizing I will one day (now?) start having to shake my gypsy tendencies. But seriously, maybe one day....

Now I'm going to distract myself by singing "Texas our Texas" or reading a day trips from Austin book or heck just continue watching the Golden Globes.

Make big plans

"Make no little plans;
they have no magic
to stir men's blood
and probably themselves
will not be realized.

Make big plans;
aim high in hope and work,
remembering that
a noble, logical diagram
once recorded
will not die."

Daniel H. Burnham
