Fightin' Texas Aggie BBQ in Washington DC

Once upon a time in Washington, DC, there gathered over two hundred Aggies, desperate for some good food.  HEB, Blue Bell, and Rudy's saved the day (along with some excellent cooks, donors, perfect weather, country music, and our little friend Shiner Bock) and had a fabulous Bar-B-Q at Fort Belvoir.

Please observe the three hundred single servings of Blue Bell vanilla that I was responsible for before the cookout.  I did not break open the bag, as I so desperately wanted, but refrained, delivering exactly three hundred single servings.

Mr. Turner's kite - check out the weight!  It's a fishing lure!  Very cool.

Gig 'em.

Ze smoker/cooker/magic maker.

Working on my people pictures... here's a good one of Hayley:

Condiment?!? What's a condiment?! (Am I right or am I right, Merinda?!)

Good times at Fort Belvoir!

The girls, dancing.

Oh, Rudy.

Kelli and Lauren illustrating the importance of wristbands.

I love these spoon things.

The grill.

Isn't this the coolest picture of potato salad ever?!

Glorious Bar-B-Q fixin's

Texas. Aggies.

Ok, so maybe I'm a bit obsessed with these little jewels.

Ladies and gents, allow me to introduce to you the "____ ________" (my first and last name). (a pox on Arnold Palmer for stealing my drink and using his own name as if it's that original).  Listen carefully.  It's Shiner Bock with Blue Bell ice cream.  Think texture of a float, but BETTER.  The Emily Eppright.  Do it.

Well if it ain't Kosmos Spoetzel.  Thanks for my college scholarship. (I'm not kidding).

This gal is awesome.  The whole thing would have flopped without her.

Why yes, that is one of...five?... ice creams I ate Saturday... worth every calorie.  Without question.

The crew.

No, thank YOU.

You must see this documentary.

Jordan, thanks for yet another gem.  This film looks absolutely incredible.  My two great loves: U.S. Military and old men.  Combined.  I cried while watching the trailer, and you will too if you're American.  I'm trying to get a screening scheduled for the D.C. area... will let you know if that happens.

Watch it, and let me know what you think.

Camping at Shenandoah National Park!

There's nothing like getting away from the city and soaking up the wonder of God's creation while CAMPING!!  Here are a few of my favorite shots from the trip last weekend.

Sunset - view 50 yards away from our campsite

Oh yes, it rained Friday night.  It was alright - we hadn't just arrived or needed to put up a massive tent or anything... when it was pitch black because it was around 10:30 at night....

Heidi's mad skills at flipping pancakes - delicious blueberry pancakes...

While the group went for a hike, Robert Francis Weatherbee (my wheels) had a date at the top of the hill.

How awesome is this?!? Hiking on horseback!!

Just gorgeous.  So many waterfalls along the path.

Another beautiful view

Jumping pictures.  My new favorite.

Yeah, all those pesky white men....

Nature! Goulet!

And the sun begins to set...

So peaceful. Love it.

Reconnected with my inner child over a hearty breakfast that included Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  Totally worth rebelling against the whole gluten-free thing.  I just might go buy a box of it.  And Cracklin' Oat Bran.  And Just Right.  I miss cereal.

Arrogant adventurer photographer...

Our group!

I love these guys!!

Skeet and Red Meat

Ma's a sure shot, better believe it.

Daddo illustrating the "International Style"

Trey being Trey.

An American Sporting Clays Family

Don't you hate it when you're trying to enjoy the view and one of those pesky shot-gunners spoils the frame in an albeit artsy way?  I call it, "Sporting Clays Silhouette."

Trey's shoes.  Consensus: "creepy."

I haven't lost my touch.... though powder I did not, shatter I did.

This is FUN.

Our artsy contribution to the party: an ice sculpture!

Can I convey to you how incredible this was?!?!

Jay's grillin' gloves

Trey's stance when he is threatened.  I think this particular instance related to his shoes.

Way to go, Shiner.  Way to make me proud.  One of each.  My kind of six pack.
